Hottest New Home Trends Of The Year

The 2025 Home Trends Report from Realtor.com has just come out to tell us the hottest home trends this year.

It’s based on an analysis of millions of listings on the real estate site to see how often specific home features appear in for-sale descriptions year over year. According to the research, buyers are all about efficiency, sustainability and nature-inspired design right now.

  • The trends report finds that there’s a clear shift in the way Americans define comfort and value, as demand for “more-opulent or space-heavy features” is down.
  • The fastest-growing trend in home features is WaterSense Fixtures, which reduce water use by at least 20%. Mentions of these have spiked 289.6% year-over-year in listing descriptions.
  • That’s followed by biophilic/indoor-outdoor design, which includes features that blend the boundary between indoor and outdoor spaces, like large sliding or folding glass doors, interior courtyards and living walls. Mentions of these are up 163% from last year.
  • Four of the top five fastest-rising features are related to efficiency and eco-friendly living, as buyers want to help lower utility costs and reduce environmental impact.
  • People also want smarter, more connected homes, and features like built-in coffee systems and smart lighting scenes are some of the fastest-growing trends.
  • Trends that are out include formal dining with built-ins, down 25.3% from last year, and infinity-edge pools, which dropped 24.7%.
