Cook Donnell Stallworth works at the Shrimp Basket in Pensacola. A man who came in just about every day for a cup of gumbo and recently had celebrated his 78th birthday at the Shrimp Basket. But Donnell noticed he hadn't seen him in a few days.
Stallworth grew worried and decided to check on him at home. WEAR-TV reports Donnell found out where the man lives and went to his house after work and knocked several times before hearing a faint call for help. Inside, he found the elderly customer lying on the floor, injured and unable to move after a fall that had left him stranded for days. Paramedics were called, and the man, who suffered broken ribs and bruises, was taken for treatment and is now recovering.
The longtime customer has since started rehabilitation and Stallworth continues to bring him gumbo while he heals. The cook’s care and quick action likely saved the man’s life and his friends at the Shrimp Basket hope he’ll soon be well enough to return for his daily visits.
