Last Friday in Atlanta, Marquez Burnette jumped into action to help a police officer struggling with an armed suspect. WSB-TV reports that Marquez saw a man waving a gun, and ,alerted a nearby Atlanta Police Department (APD) officer
Bodycam footage shows the officer wrestling with the gunman and was losing the fight when Marquez decided to join the fray. Marquez then gets the gunman to the ground and holds the suspect down while the officer handcuffs him. “I’m glad the officer is OK. I’m glad I’m OK,” he later said, adding, “I’m just thankful nobody got killed.”
Marquez broke a bone in his hand during the confrontation, but says the experience was life changing and has inspired him to apply to the Atlanta Police Department. “I just did what I’d want someone to do for me,” he explains. In a statement, the APD thanked him for his bravery, and look forward to him joining their team.
