Can you imagine what life will be like in 2065? That’s what a new survey asks 2-thousand Americans and their responses give us an interesting idea of what the future may hold.
Predictions for what life will look like 40 years from now include:
- Nearly half (48%) of Gen Z doesn’t think retirement will be an option for most of us in 2065.
- But 51% think there will be a “digital alternative” to help meet the needs of those struggling to afford care in their golden years.
- Only 35% of those who don’t own a home now believe they ever will and 25% expect they’ll have to rent for life.
- Respondents think the average cost of a home will be $682,120 in 2065, which is $272,020 more than the average home costs today.
- Of course, we’re going to need to make a lot more money to afford that, and the average household income is predicted to be $508,950, much higher than today’s $80,610.
- Somehow, people think the work week will be closer to 30 hours or four days a week by 2065.
- A quarter of those polled don’t think retirement will be financially possible, estimating we’ll need $3.54-million to retire in 40 years.
- Looking ahead to the way they want to spend their later years in life, Gen Z says they want to spend time with family to watch future generations grow (29%), travel the world and space (20%), own a hobby farm or retreat with animals and gardens (17%), life off the grid and away from tech (15%), or live with friends in a co-living community (15%).
- In general, people predict our society in 2065 will be run by 100% digital currency (39%), use biometric payment methods (36%), have households run by AI technology (35%), we’ll have a robot roommate/housekeeper/caregiver (32%) and live with implanted health monitors (30%).
