A Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) train operator is being hailed as a hero after her quick response during a shooting incident on her train at the East Point station on Sunday. Passengers say she stayed calm and immediately ran toward the gunfire with her first aid kit and gloves to assist the victims. One man was shot in the chest and another was grazed in the neck; both are recovering.
Passenger Laura Showman, who was traveling with her family from Alabama, describes the operator’s actions as brave and professional, saying she didn’t hesitate to help despite not knowing the full danger. After emergency responders arrived, the operator made sure all passengers boarded another train and then personally drove that train to the airport.
Showman later hugged the operator and expressed gratitude for her going beyond the call of duty to keep others safe. She called the operator a hero and reached out to MARTA to share her appreciation.
