Six U.S. cities were selected as hosts of soccer games for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, the Associated Press reports.
Group stage matches will be held in New York City; Columbus, Ohio; Nashville, Tennessee; St. Louis, Missouri; plus San Diego and San Jose in California, Olympic organizers announced on Tuesday (February 3). Los Angeles Olympics chief executive Reynold Hoover told International Olympic Committee members that the group stage matches would be held at "premier existing Major League Soccer stadiums," with the Rose Bowl in Pasadena set to host knockout and medal games.
The 2028 Summer Olympics will be held across the Greater Los Angeles Area, plus two subsites in Oklahoma City, and take place from July 14, 2028, to July 30, 2028. Los Angeles had originally bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics, and the International Olympic Committee approved a process to concurrently award both the 2024 and 2028 Summer Olympics, with Paris, France, winning the 2024 games.
Los Angeles was formally awarded the 2028 Summer Olympics during the 131st IOC Session in Lima, Peru, on September 13, 2017, and will mark the third time Los Angeles has played host, following the 1932 and 1984 games, as well as the fifth time the Summer Olympics and ninth Olympics overall to be held in a U.S. city.
